Attendance has two halves: getting people to book, and getting the people who booked to actually turn up. Here are ten ideas that help with both.

Getting more bookings

1. Give your attendees something to share

People trust a friend's post more than any advert. When someone books, give them a ready-made "I'm attending" image with their name and your event — every share becomes an invitation.

2. Use deadlines, not discounts

An early-bird price with a firm end date creates urgency without cheapening the event. Announce the deadline a week before and again on the last day.

3. Give partners their own discount codes

Communities, associations and sponsors can reach people you cannot. A code per partner makes it worth their while — and shows you who actually sends bookings.

4. Make the event page answer every question

Date, time, venue with a map, programme, speakers, price and what is included. Every unanswered question is a reason to "decide later". See how to write an event page that sells.

5. Make booking take one minute

Guest checkout, a short form, and a payment method people already use. Each extra step loses buyers.

6. Put it in their calendar

An event in someone's calendar gets remembered. Offer "Add to calendar" right after booking.

7. Put the ticket on their phone

A ticket saved to the phone's photos cannot be lost in an inbox, and works at the door without signal.

8. Remind them — with something new

"Don't forget" is weak. "The speaker list is out" or "Here is the room map" gives people a reason to open the email.

9. Charge something, even a little

No-show rates for free events are far higher than for paid ones. A small fee — or a refundable deposit — signals commitment.

10. Make arrival easy

Clear directions, a fast check-in, and a named person at the entrance. A queue at the door is the first impression of your event.

Measure it

Track registrations per day, which partner codes were used, and how many people actually checked in. That no-show rate is the number to beat next time.
